Tharaka-Nithi court has granted police an additional five days to investigate two women arrested on suspicion of being involved in human trafficking.

Chuka Senior Principal Magistrate Alfred Kibiru granted the application Monday.

The suspects, Judy Mwaramo, 40, and Catherine Kinanu, 38, will be held at the Chuka Police Station until investigations are complete.

The suspects were arrested at a house in Muchatha Village in Chuka/Igamba-Ng’ombe Sub County on Friday last week.

Twenty four children aged between five and 14 years who were locked in the house were rescued by police following a tip-off from residents.

The 10 boys and 14 girls were found sleeping on mattresses spread on the floor.

Police released the children to their parents and others to guardians on Friday.

Police had a hard time controlling anxious parents and relatives who threatened to punish the suspects if he was released on bond.
