US manufacturers fear secretly negotiated trade deal a ‘race to the bottom’

LEESBURG, Va. — With 1,350 employees in its five U.S. factories, New Balance is proud that it still produces 7 million pairs of shoes each year at its plants in Maine and Massachusetts, the last major athletic footwear company that still has manufacturing jobs in the United States.  But the company says those jobs could very well disappear if the U.S. scraps its tariff on athletic footwear coming in from Vietnam. “Show Me Your Papers” Law Takes Effect in Arizona

Following judge’s order, police can now demand proof of immigration status.  US District Judge Susan Bolton ruled on Tuesday that Arizona police can immediately start enforcing the so-called “show me your papers” provision of a law passed by the Republican-run state legislature an signed nearly two years ago by Governor Jan Brewer.
